2.    According to the text, what is the percentage of the population that has a visual, auditory or physical limitation? How does that compare to other sources for this information. (Please list at least one other source you found.)

According to the text one out of five individuals has vision, hearing, or physical limitations.29%  of family in The United States have at least one family member with disability. Almost 7.2% of student entering higher education has some kind of disability.
The statistic that I looked at almost gives same percentage with a minor different.
·      Of the 53.9 million school-age children 5 to 17, about 2.8 million were reported as having a disability in 2010.
·      Across the states, the percentage of metro area children with disabilities who were enrolled in public schools ranged from 76.5 percent to nearly 100 percent.
·      According to data from the most recent NPSAS, about 8% of master’s students and 7% of doctoral students in academic year 2007-08 had some type of disability

3.      Identify three factors other than the actual disabilities that exist in your student population that influence how an institution or a course creator is required to address ADA in an online course.

1.    The low factor: Section 504 of the Rehabilitation ACT of 1973 states that: "No otherwise qualified person with a disability in the United States… shall, solely by reason of …disability, be denied the benefits of, be excluded from participation in, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.
2.    It’s a matter of fairness and respect. People with disabilities have the same rights as others, including the right to fully participate in community life and attend educational organizations. Everybody has a right to live as normal a life as possible.

3.    Learning Access for people with disabilities improves learning access for everyone

4. According to the text, what is "assistive technology"? Give some examples.

Assistive technology is a term used to describe hardware devices and its related software that designed to help people with disability overcome the problems that may they encounter when attempting to view a web page. For example, voice activated mouse, voice recognition software, read and Write gold which is  comprehensive literacy software with features such as text-to-speech with highlighting, word Prediction while typing, study skills for organization and research, scanning documents, E-Books and Apps - there are Apps for accessing digital books such as VoiceDream and iBooks, as well as many free e-book and audiobook options. Read textbooks for school or books for pleasure. Apps can be utilized with accessibility features such as voice-over, text to speech, zoom/ magnification, highlighting, definitions, annotations, font style and color selection, large text. There are iPad and iPhone Apps for all abilities and disabilities, and all subjects of learning.

5. Identify and explain two different ways to check a webpage to ensure that it meets the needs of disabled students.
There are a number of website and a number of tools axis to checking website for disability access compline.

§  There are website that help to gain insight into whether the website is disability friendly or not. An example of this website is Vischeck where you can view example of how things appear on a webpage to someone who is color blind. Web AIM is another example, it provides simulations that allow a user to see how individual with no or little vision.
§  There are existing tools that allow user to evaluate an existing website for disabilities access compliance. Bobby is an online evaluation tool. The web site accept website URL and produce a report that rates the site’s compliance with disability access.

6. Identify two types of presentations used in online courses (for example, podcasts, PowerPoint’s, Videos, Slide Shows, etc.) and that you might use and explain how you can ensure that each is ADA compliant.

I would like to use podcast and video presentation. To make sure they are ADA compliant:
§  Podcast:  1. I will provide a written transcript as a tagged text file. I will match the podcast as a web page with links to the audio (or video) files and links to the text files. I might match podcast as a web page with FLASH (YouTube style) video that includes synchronized closed captioning.
§  PowerPoint presentation, I will contains the options to change font size and color. And I will limit the number of line appear on screen from two to four line. I will insure picture and graph have a good resolution. . I might incorporate captions to videos or podcast.
7. Develop a course usability checklist that is appropriate for your anticipated needs. Use the example provided in the text as a starting point and explain your modifications.
